Wu et al. (2019) concluded that the thickness measurements of the plantar fascia with ultrasound have a high degree of confidence and accuracy.
These ultrasound measurements scored equally accurate as MRI and CT.
The plantar facia has in case of a fasciitis a darker (hypoechoic) appearance. Furthermore, the fascia is increased in thickness. Sometimes a change of the cortical bone, most likely a spur, is visible.
